Who Said The Browns Josh Cribbs Wasn’t A Receiver? He Sure Was In The Pro Bowl.

The Cleveland Browns wouldn’t use Josh Cribbs as a receiver, former coach Pat Shurmur wouldn’t let Cribbs line up as a receiver. Gee I wonder why? Did Shurmur not want the Browns to win football games? In the 2013 pro bowl maybe Cribbs was show casing his talents for other teams. Cribbs is after all a free agent now. Cribbs had 3 catches in the pro bowl for 56 yards. He was the second leading receiver on the AFC’s team. He also handled the kick returns for the AFC.Josh Cribbs Pro Bowl Performance

Cribbs had another 80 yards in returns handling the ball on 3 kicks. He also had 1 punt return for only 3 yards. Josh Cribbs played in the 2013 as a free agent and he showed he belonged there. The question now becomes where will Cribbs belong in the 2013 season. Cribbs still has plenty of football left in his system. Will the Browns reach out to Cribbs and offer him a new contract or will Cribbs be another former Cleveland Browns player to move onto another team to become one of the NFL’s star players?

Listen Up You Weeden Lovers, The Browns Are Not Handing Him The Keys To The Offense,He’ll Have To Earn It.

Multiple sources are reporting that the Browns former first round draft pick Brandon Weeden won’t be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns if he can’t earn the spot in the next training camp. Browns new head coach Rob Chudzinski came out and said it would be premature to name Weeden as the Browns starter, it is obvious that Chud won’t make the same mistakes former head coach Pat Shurmur made by naming Weeden the starter right out of the gates.

The only part of the new Browns coaching staff that had anything to say about Weeden that could be taken as a positive was new offensive coordinator Norv Turner when he stated that Weeden could have the skill set they are looking for. The Browns new G.M. Michael Lombardi already made his feelings known when he made public statements on the NFL network saying; drafting Weeden in 2012 was a “panicked disaster.”

Brandon Weeden doesn’t have the support of the new brain-trust of the Cleveland Browns.  It is likely that the Browns would either start Colt McCoy or go out and find the quarterback they like. Brandon Weeden’s days in a Cleveland Browns uniform could come to an end sooner than his supporting fans think. Weeden will have to work his butt off if he is going to lead the Cleveland Browns out of the gates. Right now it is not looking very likely. It is already known that Jimmy Haslam III and Joe Banner don’t like Brandon Weeden. You could see the disgust in Haslam’s face during the Colts game.

Cleveland Browns: 5 Reasons They Will Make The Playoffs Next Year

The Cleveland Browns will make the NFL's postseason next year, which should please Cleveland native Drew Carey. Here are five reasons why in no particular order.Norv Turner

1. Offensive Coordinator, Norv Turner - Turner, while not that impressive as a head coach, is a wonderful coordinator.

He knows how to draw plays and get the most out of his offense no matter who he has playing for him. Plus, his son Scott, is the wide-receivers coach so he has a familiar face there.

2. Trent Richardson - This guy is a beast. He's a man among boys. He is a not a superstar in the making, he is already a superstar. He will lead the rushing attack and give the team a Sherman tank in the backfield.

3. Michael Lombardi - When he signed on as VP of player personnel, that showed that team is committed to winning. Lombardi rejoins the team that he started with as a scout in 1987. He knows the organization inside and out. He knows what he is talking about.  He was able to stay in tune with the game working as an analyst on NFL Network.

4. The Dawg Pound - The stadium is a great place to watch a football game. When the wind blows off of Lake Erie, especially in the winter, and when the fans get crazy, it means nightmares for the opponents.

5. Their Schedule - Among the home games the team will have next season, other than the usual Cincinnati, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, they play Buffalo, Jacksonville, and Detroit. Those are three very winnable games. Turner will make adjustments to give the team a chance to score more points which will mean more wins.

Can Cleveland Browns break the trend of 'here we go again?'

By Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Here we go again...

I bet I wasn't the only one thinking that when the Browns introduced Rob Chudzinski as their new head coach. This is not a knock on Chudzinski. The more research I do on the former Carolina offensive coordinator, the more I like the hire.

But it's still ... Here we go again. banner-chud-haslam-2013-cc.jpg

Two years ago, it was Pat Shurmur at a press conference like this. Four years ago, it was Eric Mangini. Chudzinski is the sixth coach since the team returned in 1999, and three have been wiped out in two years.

Here we go again...

That's why so many fans listen to the press conference for the new coach and think, "This will never work."

Chudzinski has the advantage not only of growing up a frustrated Browns fan, but being here twice as an assistant. But when he used the word "process," I winced. It was a flashback to Chris Palmer, the coach in 1999. Others have mentioned it.

Browns fans are weary of plans and "the process." They want to see progress in one place -- the victory column.

Here we go again...

At one point during the coaching search, I received several emails from fans who suddenly wanted Shurmur and his staff back because they feared the new guys would be even worse.

I much preferred Shurmur to Chip Kelly, the Oregon coach with zero pro experience in any capacity. But I have come to terms with Chudzinski, and not because he used to pretend to be Ozzie Newsome and Brian Sipe. Rather, he has had some degree of success with quarterbacks as different as Cam Newton and Derek Anderson.

The most impressive part of Chudzinski's two years as Carolina's offensive coordinator was last season with how he helped revive Newton, who was the star of his own huge pity party early in the year.

In the first eight games of 2012, Newton had six touchdown passes to eight interceptions, a 77.7 rating. The Panthers were 2-6. In the last eight games, Newton had 13 TDs, four interceptions. The Panthers were 5-3 as Newton had a 94.2 rating. That's real progress and an indication of solid coaching.

I believe Chudzinski will make Brandon Weeden a better quarterback, just as I believe Shurmur was correct insisting Weeden will be much better in 2013 for the simple reason that he's no longer an NFL rookie.

Here we go again...

That can change with a short winning streak. Remember the optimism when Mangini ended 2009 with four wins to finish at 5-11? Or when the Browns beat New Orleans and New England in back-to-back weeks in 2010? Or when they won three in a row this season?Fans are waiting for a reason to believe.

I look at the talent assembled by former general manager Tom Heckert (I still wish the Browns had kept him), and I'm optimistic. I just hope they get it right when it comes to the general manager.

The draft is coming and "Here we go again..." pops into my mind when I think of all the bad drafts. I'm trying not to think that way. I'm vowing to give everyone a fresh start. That's because two years from now, I don't want to sit through another press conference with another new coach.

Syracuse's Doug Marrone on Browns, Bills radar

Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone looks to be a busy man in the coming days.

He already has interviews lined up with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Reports out of Cleveland say that they're flipping the script and looking to fill their head coaching spot before they hire a GM, rather than let the incoming GM pick one. “Our focus right now is getting the right head coach and if that happens everything else will fall into place,” Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Marrone, which ironically means brown in Italian, is the former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator who left after three years to coach his alma mater in 2008. He inheritied a 3-9 team and took them to two bowl games in four seasons. Most recently, the won the Pinstripe Bowl, beating West Virginia 38-14.
